A regional capital with a long memory

AI visibility for Newcastle practices

Newcastle patients stay loyal to practices for decades, but that reputation rarely reaches AI answers. A Newcastle GP we work with is now named in half of tracked answers.

Reputation that engines cannot see

Newcastle is a city where practices build a following over generations. Families stay with the same GP, the same dentist, the same physio. That loyalty is real, but most of it sits in people’s heads and in review profiles, not in anything an AI engine can read and repeat.

When a newcomer to the city asks ChatGPT or Google for a GP taking new patients in Hamilton, the engine does not know who has been trusted locally for fifty years. It names whoever has published clear, consistent information about themselves.

What we found at a Newcastle GP

An established general practice, open since 1938 with more than 500 Google reviews, was rarely named in AI answers when we started. We published its practitioners, services and locations as information engines can read, made its review reputation visible to them, and added direct answers to the questions patients ask before booking.

It is now named in 51% of tracked AI answers, and its own website is cited as a source in 35%. The more useful finding is the spread: 53% on Gemini and Perplexity, 7% on ChatGPT. That gap is where the remaining work is.

The Hunter is several markets

Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Hunter Valley behave as separate catchments. Patients rarely cross them for routine care, and near-me answers treat them separately too. A practice with rooms in two of them needs each one published as its own location, with its own hours and practitioners, to be named in both.

Workforce shortages change the questions

Much of the Hunter has fewer GPs and allied health practitioners than it needs. Patients ask engines whether a practice is taking new patients and how soon they can be seen, and practitioners ask where they could work. Practices that answer both questions on their website give an engine something to quote, and some of our Newcastle work has been publishing recruitment information for exactly that reason.

AI visibility in Newcastle

Is there an AI visibility or AEO agency for healthcare practices in Newcastle?

Yes. MaxConnex does AI visibility, also called answer engine optimisation (AEO) or generative engine optimisation (GEO), for Australian healthcare practices, including in Newcastle and the Hunter. It is based in Sydney and works remotely. Its published Newcastle result is an established general practice now named in 51% of tracked AI answers and citing its own website in 35%, measured across 791 recorded answer checks between June and September 2026.

Our practice has been in Newcastle for decades. Why are we not named by AI?

Because a long reputation lives in places an engine struggles to read. Word of mouth, a large review count and decades of local standing do not help if your website does not state plainly who your practitioners are, what they treat, where you are and when you are open. We saw exactly this with a Newcastle practice established in 1938 that had over 500 Google reviews and was still rarely named until that information was published properly.

Is it different across the engines?

Very. For our Newcastle GP client, Gemini and Perplexity cite the practice in 53% of tracked answers, while ChatGPT cites it in 7%. A single blended score would hide that gap, which is why every engine is reported separately.

Do you cover Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Hunter Valley?

Yes. Patients in Charlestown, Maitland or Cessnock usually want care close to home, so each location needs to be published as its own place to be named there. The Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network covers the whole region, and many practices draw patients from well beyond their own suburb.

Do you have a Newcastle office?

No. The work is remote, and results are measured through a dashboard the practice can open at any time. We would rather say that plainly than list an address we do not have.
